Last Week This Morning: Wine tasting at Sinema’s

by Abigail Jackson

The 2020 election is verified. But Republican leaders in Arizona still refuse to accept the facts. More than a year later, they have continued to insist that the 2020 election results were false, despite their candidate losing fair and square. Some Arizona Republicans even took it as far as to participate in the January 6th insurrection, all part of their year-long campaign to overturn the election and prevent Americans from choosing their own leaders.

COVID wave. Arizona hospitals now have the lowest number of available beds at any point during the COVID-19 pandemic, amid a recent surge in cases. We know we can’t expect much leadership from our Governor–it’s more important than ever to get vaccinated, get booster shots, and maintain mitigation measures.

Sinema is nonsensical. Amid Sinema’s ill-deserved victory lap for passing the bipartisan infrastructure package, she has devoted considerable time giving interviews discussing why her approach to legislating is superior. She has also asserted that she thinks some Democrats have over-promised what they can deliver. But, in case Sinema has forgotten, she is one of the few obstacles standing in the way of Democrats being able to follow through on their campaign promises. Repeatedly.

Wine tasting at Sinema’s. Watch this clip from the wine tasting we held outside Senator Kyrsten Sinema’s office, in hopes that it would be a more effective way to reach her.

No Tyrants

Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it took until June 19, 1865 for Union troops to reach Texas, the westernmost Confederate state. Juneteenth has been celebrated since 1866, but was not […]

Los Angeles Rises Up

LA rises up. Community members in LA continue to protest against extreme workplace ICE raids in the city, banding together to protect their neighbors. Federal law enforcement agencies, alongside LAPD, have continually escalated their presence and tactics at these demonstrations, as we have seen them use tear gas, flash-bangs, less-than-lethal rubber bullets, and other aggressive […]

We keep us safe

Public pressure works. Although the Trump administration continues to push violent and dangerous anti-immigrant rhetoric, the last week has shown that our consistent defiance is beginning to pay off. In San Diego, hundreds of community members banded together after ICE was seen raiding local restaurants; they surrounded the ICE agents, chanting, and peacefully herded them […]
