Over the last few days, Arizona Republican state lawmakers have introduced a series of bills going after the Permanent Early Voting List, including:
SB1069 (Senator Ugenti-Rita): would purge hundreds of thousands of voters from the permanent vote by mail list. Will be heard in the Senate Government committee on Thursday
HB2369 (Representative Kevin Payne): would require vote by mail ballots to be notarized
HB2370 (Representative Kevin Payne): would eliminate permanent vote by mail list entirely
80% of those who voted in November’s election received their ballots by mail.
In response, Progress Arizona Executive Director Emily Kirkland issued the following statement:
“The Arizona Republican Party is anti-democracy, pure and simple. They spread lies about the electoral process, tried to overturn the result of the 2020 election, and helped incite an armed insurrection at the US Capitol. Now Republican lawmakers are attacking the vote by mail list in a blatant attempt to prevent eligible voters from making their voices heard. As Arizonans, we need to come together, stop these attacks and re-affirm and uplift democractic ideals.”
